Dubai begins issuing 5-year entry permits to foreign workers

Dubai began issuing five-year multiple-entry permits to employees of international companies, the latest in a series of steps aimed at attracting foreigners and boosting growth.

Dubai’s Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohamed said on Twitter that the new permit would allow employees to travel to Dubai more easily and take part in conferences, exhibitions and meetings.

Foreign residents make up more than 90% of Dubai’s population and have been a mainstay of the economy for decades – most hold private sector jobs and spend their money on property or shopping at some of the largest malls in the world.

As part of its efforts to attract foreigners to the country, the United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is a part, this year approved a plan to grant citizenship to a select group of people – the first Gulf Arab nation aimed at giving To formalize a process from migrants to a large part in the economy.
