Durand Cup: Hyderabad FC begin campaign with a 2-0 win over TRAU FC

Indian Super League (ISL) champions Hyderabad FC began their 131st Durand Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over local favorite Tidim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal on Monday. This is TRAI’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament. In Group C, Hyderabad FC scored three points in the 27th minute with two brilliant goals from Halicharan Narzari and Borja Herrera in the 52nd minute.

TRAU FC, who were coming after a 1-3 loss to rivals Neroca in their opening game, got off to a great start from both sides. He controlled the possession and looked to open in the Hyderabad FC defence. The ISL champions took some time to settle down in the match.

However, once they did, they started sewing passes together and creating chances. The first real opportunity for Hyderabad FC came when Mohammad Yasir’s shot went straight to the keeper.

He took the lead in the 27th minute through a quality Halicharan Narjaray strike. It was an error from TRAU midfield due to pressure from Spaniard Borja and the loose ball was caught by Halicharan, who curled a brilliant shot from away in the top right corner of the post.

Hyderabad FC slowed down the game after the goal but the home players lacked the intention to get the ball back and it looked like the goal deflected them.

Hyderabad FC took complete control of the proceedings in the second half as they continued to play lucrative football that took them to the ISL Summit last season.

The second goal was also scored in the 52nd minute through Borja, who was declared man of the match. Mohamed Yasir found him from the right and the Spaniard first took a brilliant touch and then made a left footed scorer into the top corner.

Hyderabad FC maintained complete control over the game and created several chances but could not score. He hit at least twice with no luck. Coach Manolo Marquez brought up his regular for the last half hour, which completely shut down the game for TRAU.

On August 26, Hyderabad FC will face Chennaiyin FC and on August 28, TRAI will take on Army Red Football Team. Chennaiyin FC and Army Red played out a draw in their first match.
