Earth Day 2022: Google Doodle shows the impact of climate change at various places

Search giant Google dedicated Earth Day artwork to a Google Doodle today, which began in 1970, to show how climate change is affecting the climate.

Earth Day is celebrated around the world to mark the anniversary of the modern movement to protect our environment that began more than 50 years ago. Climate change which is one of the most pressing issues at present has been featured in a Google Doodle to show its impact on various places on planet Earth.

Imagery of each location affected by climate change will be displayed on the homepage Google search engine for several hours at a time.

“Using real time-lapse imagery from Google Earth Timelapse and other sources, the doodle shows the effects of climate change in four different locations around our planet. Stay tuned throughout the day to see these scenes, each scene stays on the homepage for several hours at a time,” according to a statement from Google.

The first doodle includes actual imagery of the glacier retreating to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It shows images from 1986 to 2020.

The second image shows a glacier retreat in Semmersuk, Greenland, using images taken every December from 2000 to 2020.

The third image is of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, showing coral bleaching on Lizard Island. The pictures used in the doodle are taken every month from March to May 2016.

The fourth image shows the Harz forests in Germany, which have been destroyed by bark beetle infestations due to rising temperatures and severe drought. Images are taken every December from 1995 to 2020.
