eBikeGo, one of India’s leading electric two-wheeler mobility platform, has acquired the rights to manufacture the “Velocipedo” smart electric trike from Spanish automotive company Torrot in India. With this agreement, eBikeGo now plans to enter the luxury electric three-wheeler industry and aims to manufacture these scooters. The three-wheeled Velocipedo has already garnered worldwide appreciation by winning the Reddot Design Award, an internationally coveted award for design. The Velocipedo is meant to offer the benefits of an electric scooter, but with better stability due to its three-wheeled design.

The smart electric trike is equipped with two front wheels and one rear wheel, and gets a carbon fiber roof that acts as a roll cage for its two occupants. According to a company statement, the Velocipedo is designed in such a way that it combines the comfort and safety of a car with the speed of a motorbike; But with more stability than a motorcycle, thanks to its two front wheels.

The Velocipedo will be produced in three basic models; A private vehicle, trick taxi and a freight vehicle, in Pune (India) early next year. The basic model can accommodate two people, has a full cab and does not require seatbelts and helmets. The vehicle has a top speed of 95 kmph, and a range of 200 kms per charge. The Velocipedo has a curb weight of 180 kg and will take 1.5 hours (at a 220V outlet) to fully charge. It also comes with regenerative braking feature which can add 10-20% to the range. The 155kg Velocipedo-C, which is intended for commercial use, has room for the driver only and has enough space to accommodate 70 kg cargo. This model has just a basic windshield and will require a helmet to operate. The first Velocipedo electric trike is expected to be delivered to the customers from September 2022.
