ECI announces bye-elections to 13 assembly seats in 7 states on July 10, 2024

The Election Commission of India announced dates for  bypolls to 13 assembly seats across seven states on July 10, 2024. The bypolls will be held in one constituency each in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, four constituencies in West Bengal and two seats each in Uttarakhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

The bypolls will be held on July 10 and the counting of votes will be on July 13. The Election Commission said the bypolls have to be completed before July 15. The bypolls are to be held against vacancies created either due to deaths or resignation of incumbent members.

The following are the Assembly Constituencies where bypolls would be held:

The notification for the elections will be issued on June 14, the last date for filing of nomination papers is June 21, the poll papers will be scrutinised on June 24 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is June 26.

The bypolls have been scheduled soon after the the conclusion of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.   The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won its third successive term in results of Lok Sabha polls declared on June 4. The NDA won over 291 seats in the Lok Sabha polls with BJP getting 240 seats.

The Election Commission said Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) shall be the main document of identification of a voter. However, any of the below mentioned identification documents can also be shown at the polling station:

iii. Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office,

iv. Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour,

vii. Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR,

ix. Pension document with photograph,

x. Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies, and

xi. Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs.

xii. Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, M/o Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India
