IAS officer Supriya Sahu is doing her bit for the planet and also asking her followers to think about the environment and make green choices. A few days back, Sahoo shared a video clip promoting eco-friendly products for food packaging and even urged hotels and restaurants to use it. In the 43-second clip, we can see food containers and tumblers of various sizes made of rice bran placed on a table. In the video, a person showing the products to a consumer can be heard saying that they cannot be reused.
Sahoo wrote in the caption of the tweet, “Food containers made of rice bran are leakproof, economical, disposable and earth friendly. Hotels, restaurants, food joints, it’s time you stop using plastic packaging banned in TN and to switch durable ecological choice. He also used the hashtag “Meendummanajappai”, a reference to the eco-friendly initiative launched by the Tamil Nadu government a few days back.

The video has been viewed more than 25 lakh times so far. The tweet has been liked by over 13,800 people. It has been retweeted over 4,000 times. senior congress leader Shashi Tharoor He was among those who retweeted this. Tharoor said such initiatives should be adopted across the country and urged the government at the Center to “provide incentives to scale up production of such eco-friendly alternatives for daily use”.

Seeing the overwhelming response, Sahoo said in a subsequent tweet that she would provide a list of local eco makers in Tamil Nadu.

he kept it promise, and a day later shared a list of environmental manufacturers in the state. In the caption, Sahu told his followers that “there are many alternatives to plastic packaging, we need to have an open mind to discover, use and promote them”.

IFS officer Sushant Nanda, who regularly shares updates, videos and photos of the country’s flora and fauna and various animal rescue efforts, responded to Sahu’s tweet by sharing an image of food containers produced from sugarcane fibre, and Promoted their use. “Time to go natural and dispose of disposables” plastic food container,” he wrote in the caption.

The product is made from sialli/mahl leaves and the corrugated sheet base is also disposable, biodegradable and healthy. This product also provided a means of earning to the poor tribal people.
