ED summons TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee in ‘coal smuggling scam’

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday issued summons to Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for questioning in connection with its probe into the ‘coal theft scam’. An official gave this information.

The ED registered a case under PMLA sections in the wake of an FIR listed by the CBI in November 2020, which claimed multi-crore coal theft scam involving the mines of Eastern Coalfields Limited in Kunustoria and Kajora areas of West Bengal in and around Asansol. was.

Abhishek Banerjee represents the Diamond Harbor seat in the Lok Sabha. He is also the National General Secretary of Trinamool Congress.

The Supreme Court on May 12 asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to go to Kolkata and lead a probe in a money laundering case related to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal in which the office had summoned the Trinamool Congress. TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee.

He said the central agency asked Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, to appear at his Kolkata office on Friday morning.

“We have summoned Abhishek Banerjee to appear before our officers here. Our officers from New Delhi will come to interrogate him,” a senior ED official told PTI.

Attacking the BJP during an event, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday feared that central agencies may send notices to her nephew, who is considered second in the party, and other senior leaders.
