In a statement, the EDMC said, the mayor has given “advance approval” for outsourcing management of the Ambedkar Sports Complex owned by East Delhi Municipal Corporation at Trilokpuri. The company will have the right to manage the premises for five years which can be extended for another five years with the approval of the EDMC commissioner and mutual consent of the parties, Agarwal was quoted as saying in the statement.
The campus has two indoor badminton courts, a football field, a cricket ground and a gymnasium, he said, adding that the company would be responsible for infrastructure development and day-to-day operations of the sports facility. The mayor said the company would be responsible for the maintenance, security, operation and management of the premises for the duration of the project and would pay Rs 55,750 per month (approximately Rs 7 lakh annually) to the EDMC.
EDMC Commissioner Vikas Anand said that the land and buildings of the sports complex belong to EDMC and the company will not have any right over the land or the constructed buildings. The statement quoted him as saying that the company is “free to renovate and upgrade the premises at its own discretion and no such amount shall be claimed from the EDMC at the end of the project”.
Anand said that the renovation and up-gradation of the sports complex is required to be approved by the commissioner of EDMC. He said that the outsourced agency would have to provide free coaching to the primary school students of EDMC and also allow the use of sports and related equipment available in the sports complex.
It will have to promote physical education and sports through new programs and develop the sports complex as an institution of excellence, Anand said, adding that the rates payable for various activities will be “revised at any time” with the approval of the EDMC commissioner. can be done.
