In a statement on Wednesday, the EDMC said, “In order to streamline and improve the performance of its schools, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has initiated action against teachers in EDMC schools who are absent for more than five years. The same. for any satisfactory reason”. All teachers who were on “long leave” have been served notices to resume work or to show valid reasons for continued leave or absence. It said that some teachers remained absent even after taking leave initially.
“Consequently, in some cases where no satisfactory reply has been received, the services of teachers have been terminated after following due procedure under the provisions of the Revised Leave Rules and DMC Regulations 1959,” the EDMC said.
In remaining such cases, due process is on to terminate the services of teachers who are no longer willing to join back or find themselves absent, officials said.
However, the corporation did not disclose the number of teachers whose services have been terminated.
This process will also help EDMC to identify the actual gap in sanctioned strength and actual number of teachers.
The EDMC will recruit new teachers based on the final assessment of the gap, which will, in turn, ensure that the corporation provides better and quality education to the students in primary schools and maintains the requisite PTR (Student Teacher Ratio) and quality education. The children are not affected, the statement said.
Officials said that it is the primary responsibility of the corporation to provide quality education to the children studying in the schools of the corporation and all efforts would be made to ensure the same.
