Education gets priority in Naya Kashmir – Times of India

The youth of the Union Territory have realized that only disillusionment and pain are on the way to the East. They can no longer agree to fight a war that ends in a lifetime of misery.

The youth are availing all the opportunities of education with zeal and enthusiasm.
Last month, Hajik Parvez Lone, a native of Tenj village in Shopian district and son of a fruit trader, topped. NEET-UG 2022 Exam It is ranked 10th in the Union Territory and in the country. In an effort to expose young minds to the world outside Jammu and Kashmir and inspire them to dream big, the five-day Bharat Darshan Tour was flagged off in Srinagar, Boarding and lodging facilities including food and air tickets were provided to the students by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. The tour included famous multinational companies, tourist destinations, major industries and historical places. Travelers described the journey as eye-opening and life-changing. This has encouraged them to study hard keeping a broader worldview in perspective.
Earlier this year, a Gurjar girl from Shopian, Jabeena Bashir, qualified for the NEET exam by securing 423 marks in her first attempt. She credits this to her government school teachers who inspired and guided her every step of the way for this achievement. The Indian Army stationed at remote locations has also acted as substitute teachers for Gurjar children who migrate with their families to keep up with the changing seasons because of their occupation.
The Department of Tribal Affairs recently operationalized a 100 bedded hostel for girl students in Jammu and one is coming up in Srinagar. Many such hostels will be built to bring the students closer to the education centres. The hostels will have all modern facilities and subsidized food. Tribal students will get scholarships and computer tablets with pre-loaded educational material.
The department has also approved a plan to modernize 120 schools in the tribal areas of the Union Territory. In the first phase of the scheme, 100 schools have been modernized at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Under a special budget earmarked under the Tribal Education Scheme (TEP), the department will provide coaching to students for competitive exams like UPSC, medical and engineering entrance exams and IT equipment. Today Tribal Research Institute is celebrating one year of achievements in organizing capacity building programs for teachers of tribal schools in coordination with the district level education department.
To provide quality education to the youth in remote areas of J&K, 25,000 additional seats are being provided by setting up 50 degree colleges. For the first time, the higher education sector of the UT will provide quality education to the underprivileged section of the society.
School enrollment has increased by 14.5 percent in 2021-2022 under the Aao School Chalen campaign.
As many as 1,65,000 students have attended various schools in the union territory, of which 80 per cent had never attended school before. Such children are placed in age-appropriate classes according to their ability. A student counseling program – Student and Teacher Engagement for Educational Reinforcement (STEER) has been started in the Union Territory for capacity building of teachers. The program focuses on strengthening student performance in real time through practical learning.
Besides formal schooling, 70,000 school children from 714 government schools are being given vocational training in 14 different types of occupations. To carry out this initiative, there are 803 vocational laboratories and 1122 new laboratories and 1352 smart classrooms are operational in the current financial year. To deliver on the promise, 127 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and 1420 Computer Aided Learning (CAL) centers are coming up in Jammu and Kashmir.
An MoU has also been signed with HCL TechB for providing skill training to the school graduate students. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said the idea is to inculcate creativity, scientific temper and entrepreneurial and ethical leadership in the students as per the counsel for the National Policy on Education (NEP).
