Education Minister welcomes Australian universities to set up campuses in India, raises student visa issue

Federation education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is on a four-day visit to Australia to strengthen India-Australia ties and collaborate in education, research and skill development. He visited various schools, institutions of higher education and skills in Sydney on Monday. Minister to co-chair Australia’s sixth meeting India Council of Education with his counterpart Jason Clare.

Ahead of the meeting, the Education Minister raised the issue of pending visas of Indian students going to Australia. He said the Australian government is keen to establish university-to-university collaboration to accelerate visas as well as offer dual degree programs. Pradhan said Australian universities and skill institutes are welcome to set up their campuses in India and explore areas of collaboration.

Pradhan also visited Homebush West Public School in the state of New South Wales to gain insight on the school excellence framework and best practices in universalizing early childhood education. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that affordable, accessible and universal elementary education for children is the key to better learning outcomes and a brighter future for all.

He further added that best practices and positive experiences in early education and digital learning in NSW can be replicated in India to make early childhood care and education equitable and accessible, and to strengthen early childhood care infrastructure, Especially even after school hours.

He further said that India is also setting up a multidisciplinary and multi-dimensional Gati Shakti University, which aims to build the next generation of skilled professionals to support the growing logistics, infrastructure development and transport sector. The Minister also visited the Institute of Applied with His Excellency Jason Clare technology In TAFE NSF.

Before leaving for Australia, the Minister had said that India-Australia bilateral relations are aimed at opening up opportunities for both sides to establish the knowledge economy as a key pillar of cooperation. “This visit will accelerate our unity of purpose, help build a trans-national knowledge bridge, further broaden our engagement at all levels in all areas of learning, skills, research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and people-to-people engagement. will deepen it.” He added.

Pradhan is also scheduled to visit the Kangan Institute and Deakin University in Melbourne. “He will meet academics and leaders of the Australian education and skills ecosystem and the vibrant Indian diaspora living in Melbourne. Principal Skills and Training Minister Brendan O’Connor will hold a virtual bilateral meeting with MP.
