The Ministry of Education came up with some dos and don’ts for parents and children to be able to address the downsides of the digital world, especially online gaming.

In a government advisory, the ministry asked parents “not to use real and personal information while playing online and to use an unnamed nickname”. It also asked parents to configure security settings for any website or file using spyware, antivirus and firewall.

Check the age rating for each sport, and keep a record of any abuse, harassment or bullying, and report it to law enforcement’s cybercrime department.

It also warned them not to download software and games from unknown and unauthorized websites.

The other guidelines stated: Do not allow them to engage online for long periods of time and ask them to take breaks in between. Don’t leave the web unattended and apply a parental filter to filter out the content your child is interacting with.

Meanwhile, expressing concern over children becoming addicted to mobile games, Rajya Sabha member and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Friday Demanded that the government should regulate the online gaming industry and impose a similar tax on it.
