Industry and IT Minister Gudivada Amarnath has said that efforts are being made to revive international flights to Malaysia and Bangkok, which were soon withdrawn due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister participated as the Chief Guest at the Visakha Connect and Tourism Mega Meet organized by the Air Travelers Association (India) here on Sunday.

Speaking to media persons who met him during the meeting, Mr Amarnath said that the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum to be held in Davos from May 22 to 26 will bring investment to the state.

The Davos conference will discuss 18 issues and the state government will focus on 10 proposals related to issues such as agriculture, tourism, education, medicine and health and economy. He said the conference was a wonderful opportunity to showcase Andhra Pradesh.

Shri Amarnath recalled that the seed for the development of IT sector in Visakhapatnam was sown during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and now efforts are being made to promote it further.

Beach IT Destination

Addressing the meeting, he said that Visakhapatnam would be promoted as a beach IT destination taking advantage of the infrastructure and vast resources available in the city. He said that improving air connectivity will also bring investment and the government is working in that direction. He said that Visakhapatnam is being developed as a tourism hub and measures are being initiated to develop a convention center and resort in this regard.

Airport director K. Srinivasa Rao spoke on the prospects of Visakhapatnam International Airport. He added that the airport, which handled 2.5 million passengers before the COVID-19 pandemic, was recovering slowly but steadily and received 1.6 million passengers, which is more than its pre-COVID-19 pandemic. The traffic was about 63%, he said.

ATA (I) President D. Varada Reddy underlined the need to provide facilities to common tourists besides increasing air connectivity.

Former Andhra University vice-chancellor GSN Raju said that the improvement in air connectivity will prove to be a boon for the students studying in various universities of Andhra Pradesh.
