NS suzuki Katana is an iconic nameplate and has always been one of the favorites of enthusiasts. The updated 2022 Suzuki Katana has made its global debut at EICMA 2021 and it looks even sharper. It is based on the new Suzuki GSX-S1000 platform and is mated to a 999cc four cylinder engine producing 150bhp at 11,000rpm which is almost 2bhp more than the outgoing motorcycle. Again, Suzuki has also added a Suzuki Drive Mode Selector system with three selectable engine maps and while all three modes offer similar power output, the initial throttle response and delivery speed differ.

The lightweight, twin-spar aluminum frame remains unchanged on the 2022 Suzuki Katana.

The Japanese brand also says that the motor has been tuned to deliver a wider spread of torque in the rev band, courtesy new intake and exhaust camshafts, new valve springs, new exhaust and a new airbox. And that’s in turn coupled with a new ride-by-wire throttle. In addition, there’s a bi-directional quick shifter and five modes of traction control to choose from, while traction control can be turned off as well. The new Katana also comes equipped with a new Suzuki Clutch Assist system along with a slipper clutch. Completing the electronics package is Suzuki’s Easy Start System and Low RPM Assist, which controls revs based on clutch operation to avoid slow stops and provide better control.

That said, it is still a comprehensive update and not a new-gen model, so there are some similarities as well. For example, the lightweight, twin-spar aluminum frame remains unchanged. GSX-R-derived swingarms, fully adjustable KYB front forks and a preload and rebound damping adjustable rear shock are also things we’ve seen before. It also gets Brembo monoblock calipers that churn out 310mm front discs, those discs are fitted on six-spoke, cast aluminum wheels with Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tires that are custom engineered for Suzuki’s GSX-S platform. The design of the 2022 Suzuki Katana has been changed but it is still inspired by the original katana of the 1980s. It is now finished in dark blue, complemented by gold forks and wheels, while the dark gray color is offered with red wheels. Apart from this, there is a revised dash which gets a new red night mode.
