However, as we are heading out this year, I will be offering Namaz at the Masjid. Then I will return home and eat my favorite sheer khurma. I have invited some of my friends and family for a special lunch consisting of Biryani, Korma, Naan and many more.”

Asif also took a trip down memory lane, “My place of birth is Varanasi, where my grandfather lived. He used to celebrate a big celebration on the day of Eid. Many of our relatives used to come to celebrate with us. The Dastarkhwan of 25-30 people used to be full of guests. We didn’t know who would come or who would be enjoying themselves… the caravan just kept on moving. Those memories of the early 1980s are still fresh in my mind.”

And Farhana Fatema who appeared as Shanti Mishra in Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai said, “Eid is always a wonderful and memorable occasion for me. It is about meeting with friends, family and loved ones. In the last two years, we could not meet our loved ones on these special occasions. This year, I am looking forward to hosting a family gathering.”

She described, “The festivities will go on for two days at my residence. The menu will have Biryani, Sheer Khurma, Dahi Bada and Falooda. I remember my father forgot to give me Idi once and was going out to meet his friends. I was on the verge of going on a hunger strike until he came back and gave me his Idi (laughs). My cousins and siblings keep teasing me about it. I wish everyone a very happy festival. Eid Mubarak to all.”

Ali Goni spoke about his plans for Eid-ul-Fitr this year and recalled his childhood memories. He said, ‘I am planning to go to Jammu with my family on Eid. Whenever I am with my family it is always special. My parents have gone for Umrah, and will come back after Eid, so I will wait till they come back to Jammu. I am a foodie but I love the sheer khurma and biryani made by my mother during this time. But she will not come this year so my sister will be cooking all the dishes. But once my mother comes back, I will definitely ask her to make it for me before coming back to Mumbai. I don’t cook much but help my family with the preparations. I have many fond memories of Eid and hence it is difficult to share just one. But what they all have in common is me and my sister, Ilham, who are fighting for Idi.”

In childhood, getting money or Idi used to be a big deal for us. At the end of the day we’ll start counting to find out who got how much. The time spent with family and friends during Eid was very special.”
