Election Commission freezes LJP’s party symbol amid tussle between Chirag Paswan and Pashupati Paras

The Election Commission has banned the election symbol of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) amid a tussle between the factions of Chirag Pawan and his uncle and Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras. Both the factions of LJP had claimed the election symbol ‘Bangla’ (House) in the Election Commission.

The Election Commission has asked both the factions to give new names for their respective factions by 1 pm on October 4 (Monday) till the final decision is taken. The Election Commission has also asked for three options, each of which will be allotted election symbols. After this factions can field their candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Kusheshwar and Tarapur in Bihar. The Election Commission has directed that both the factions will not even be able to use the name ‘Lok Janshakti Party’.

Nomination process is going on for two assembly by-election seats of Bihar.

Chirag Paswan had on Friday visited the Election Commission’s office and demanded that the party’s election symbol be retained with his party. One faction of LJP is headed by President Paswan and the other faction is led by his uncle and Union Cabinet Minister Paras.

The crisis in the LJP began when five MPs moved from Paswan to Paras in June this year. Later, Pashupati Paras declared himself party president in Patna.

There is a dispute between the late Ram Vilas Paswan’s son Pashupati Kumar Paras and Chirag over the legacy of the party’s legacy.
