LUCKNOW: Continuing with its crackdown against power theft in a city battling heavy demand for power, the Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) on Friday nabbed 57 houses in the city limits for power theft.
A team of dozen people raided Telibagh, Rustam Vihar, Kati Bagiya in CIS Gomti area and stopped the electricity supply of those houses which were involved in electricity theft.
Speaking to TOI, Sandeep Kumar Tiwari, Executive Engineer, Cooperative Electricity Supply First (CESS 1), said, “For weeks we were receiving complaints of excessive power load in our jurisdiction. Several teams were formed for morning raids and we nabbed 57 houses, which are likely to cause a loss of Rs 58 lakh to us, which will be recovered from them.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Lesa switched off the electricity supply of Halwasia property in Hazratganj, after an electricity bill was allegedly bounced.
Talking to TOI, Chief Executive Engineer CIS LESA Vipin Jain said, “Halwasia had an outstanding bill of Rs 48.67 lakh till March 11. He was asked to pay his dues – in response he deposited three checks, two checks for Rs 12 lakh each and one for Rs 10 lakh. Halwasia agreed to pay the remaining Rs 14 lakh bill by the end of March. However, two checks of Rs 12 and Rs 10 lakh bounced and they also failed to pay the pending bill of Rs 14 lakh.
“In total, their dues now stand at Rs 46.9 lakh. Since they have not cleared the dues, we have disconnected their power supply.”
