Idukki (Kerala):

A road connecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala, which passes through the Marayoor area in the high-grade district of Idukki, was blocked for nearly an hour. It was not for any VIP movement, but because of an elephant giving birth in the middle of the road.

A senior forest department official said that when the mother was giving birth to the baby, her herd blocked the road for an hour on Tuesday morning, preventing vehicular movement from both the sides.

According to eyewitnesses to the incident, the herd went away only after the newborn calf and its mother went to the nearby forest.

The birth scenes on Beach Road went viral and were aired on TV channels.

The scene shows the newborn calf and its mother standing at both ends of the road, some distance from the elephants in the middle of the road.

The official also said that this is not a unique incident and such incidents often happen in and around forest areas.
