Sirsa: Voting for by-election Ellenabad Assembly Area Haryana It started on Saturday morning, officials said. The polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, he said.
The by-election was necessitated by INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala’s resignation from the post of MLA in January over the Centre’s agricultural laws.
Over 1.85 lakh voters will decide the fate of 19 candidates for the bypolls.
A total of 211 polling stations have been set up and 121 of these have been classified as sensitive and most sensitive, officials said.
Tight security arrangements have been made for the by-election with the deployment of 30 companies of Central Security Force, five companies of Rapid Action Force and Haryana Police.
Haryana Lokhit Party chief and MLA Gopal Kanda’s brother Gobind Kanda recently joined the BJP and has been fielded by the BJP-JJP alliance.
Pawan Beniwal, who unsuccessfully contested the last assembly election against Abhay Chautala, recently joined the Congress from the BJP. He is in fray as the candidate of the main opposition party.
Abhay Chautala, Beniwal and Kanda are being considered as the prime candidates.
A major part of the Ellenabad assembly constituency is rural, where most of the people depend on agriculture.
The counting of votes will take place on November 2, officials said.
