Elon Musk fired over 4,000 contract workers without notice: Report

The latest round of layoffs comes just a week after Musk fired 50 percent of Twitter’s staff.

New Delhi:

The bloodshed at Twitter continued over the weekend as new owner Elon Musk fired more than 4,000 contract workers over the weekend without prior notice, a report said.

According to platformerAbout 4,400 contract workers lost access to their official mail, online services and internal communications of the company.

“Update: Company sources told me yesterday that Twitter terminated ~4,400 of its ~5,500 contract employees, with the cuts expected to have a significant impact on content moderation and the core infrastructure services that keep the site running. People inside are stunned,” tweeted platformers Casey Newton.

The latest round of layoffs comes just a week after Musk fired 50 per cent of Twitter’s workforce, about 3,700 employees, including 90 per cent of its workforce in India.

According to the report, new job cuts were announced across Twitter’s global operations, affecting employees in content moderation, marketing, real estate, engineering and other departments.

Since taking over Twitter in October in a $44 billion deal, Musk has fired more than half of the company’s employees. Twitter’s chief security officers have also resigned from the platform amid the uproar.

Chief Security Officer Lee Kissner tweeted last week, “I’ve made the difficult decision to leave Twitter.”

Twitter’s head of trust and security, Joel Roth, also resigned from the company, days after he vehemently defended Musk’s content moderation policy to advertisers.
