Elon Musk’s first email to Twitter staff: No more remote work, tough times ahead

Elon Musk on Twitter called for an immediate end to remote working for the remaining 50 percent of employees, warning them that “the road ahead is tough and will require intense work to be successful”.

In his first email sent to employees, the new Twitter CEO said that “over the next few days, the absolute top priority is to find and suspend any verified bots/trolls/spam”. Bloomberg first reported the news.

Musk warned that a weak economic climate in the US would mean difficulties for Twitter and that there was “no way to get over the message” about these challenges.

He also reportedly told the employees that they should be in office for at least 40 hours a week.

Musk, however, said he would only approve remote work on a case-by-case basis.

In March this year, Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal told employees that wherever you feel most productive and creative is “where you will work and that includes WFH full-time forever”.

He told employees, “The decision should be yours about where you work, whether you feel safe traveling for business, and what programs you attend.”

Meanwhile, several top companies, including insurance company Allianz and automaker Audi, have halted ad spending on Twitter in response to Musk’s acquisition.

Musk told advertisers on Wednesday that he had heard their concerns.

In his online meeting with advertisers, Musk told them how support for payment verification and a creator ecosystem through the Blue subscription service could kick-start growth for Twitter.
