Washington:

US President Joe Biden on Wednesday praised Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk’s plan to open up part of its electric vehicle charging network, saying the move is a “big deal” and will “make a big difference”.

The tweet signals an improvement in relations between Joe Biden and Elon Musk, who previously complained of being ignored.

“In building our EV charging network, we must ensure that as many chargers work for as many drivers as possible,” Biden said in a tweet. “To that end, @elonmusk will open up a huge portion of @Tesla’s network to all drivers. It’s a big deal, and will make a big difference.”

In response to the tweet, Musk said, “Thank you, Tesla is happy to support other EVs through our Supercharger network.”

The Biden administration said on Wednesday that by the end of 2024, Tesla would open 7,500 new and existing Superchargers and Destination Chargers. The administration is set to spend $7.5 billion to expand charging infrastructure and drive adoption of electric vehicles.
