‘Elvis’ to have world premiere at Cannes Film Festival

Rock and roll legend Austin Butler’s upcoming film “Elvis” is all set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, according to Variety. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the drama film also stars Tom Hanks. The film currently has a June 24 release date, meaning the festival cannot open until Warner Bros. Pictures decided to bow down to May 17 for the 75th edition to begin the milestone.

Cannes introduced a new rule several years ago that requires every opening night film to be released on the same day in French cinemas.

Luhrmann kicked off the first French Riviera festival with a bang with the Moulin Rouge. ‘The Great Gatsby’ in 2001 and ‘The Great Gatsby’ in 2013.

In addition to Butler, who stars as King, and Hanks, who stars as Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s all-controlling manager, the cast also features Olivia DeJong and Natasha Bassett.

The trailer was released last month and garnered positive buzz.

Luhrmann’s first film since “The Great Gatsby,” “Elvis” explores the life and music of Elvis Presley, seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager.

The story is set against the backdrop of an evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America, in the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning more than 20 years, from Presley’s rise to his unprecedented stardom.

At the center of that journey is one of the most important and influential people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley (DJong). Luhrmann co-wrote the screenplay with Craig Pearce.

Variety predicted that the film would be “Top Gun” and George Miller’s new film “Three Thousand Years of Longing”, alongside David Cronenberg’s “Crimes of the Future”, Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Broker” and Park Chan-wook. Will go in ear ‘The decision to leave’, among others.

The official selections from the Cannes Film Festival will be unveiled at a press conference in Paris during the second or third week of April.

The festival is scheduled to take place on May 17-28 with new sponsors, including TikTok and Brut, as well as French public broadcaster France Television.
