Emma Raducanu said on Wednesday that she will miss the French Open and Wimbledon as Britain’s number one recovers from hand and ankle surgeries. The 2021 US Open champion has struggled with injury problems in recent months and pulled out of the Madrid Open in April due to a hand injury. The 20-year-old, who has slipped to No. 85 in the world rankings, posted a picture of herself in a hospital bed with her right hand bandaged on her social media accounts.

“It’s safe to say the last 10 months have been tough as I’ve been battling recurring bone fractures in both hands,” she said.

“I spent most of this year and through the end of last year dramatically reducing exercise loads, missing weeks of training as well as shortening last season to try to heal. Tried my best.

“Unfortunately it is not enough. I am having a minor procedure on both hands to resolve the issues.

“I am disappointed to inform that I will be out for the next few months and while I am at it I will have another minor procedure on my ankle.

“It pains me that I will miss the events of the summer and I try to downplay the issues, so I thank all my fans who have continued to support me when I didn’t know the facts.”
