  • India scored 198 runs for the loss of 8 wickets
  • Hardik Pandya scored a fifty
  • England thrashed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s swing

England captain Jos Buttler was dismissed by India’s premier fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the very first over of the second innings. Chasing 199 in the first T20I game at Southampton, England were hopeful that the world’s best white-ball batsman would have given them a quick start. However, it seemed far from the truth as England lost their first wicket on the last ball of the over, after Bhuvneshwar Kumat swung the ball into the right hand.

A peach the size of a batter taunted him for room and took out his stump.

England were put on the back foot in the first innings as well, when Rohit Sharma decided to make a comeback and started hitting right over the top. Suryakumar Yadav’s useful contribution in the middle order and then Hardik Pandya’s half-century took India under control. England did manage to make a comeback in the end, but India scored 198 runs by the end of their 20 overs.

England hoped that it would enjoy what looked like a belt of a pitch to bat on, but lost wickets at early intervals. After losing Butler in the first over, the hosts lost anchor David Malan and middle-order batsman Liam Livingstone during an over from Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder’s fine form continued as he showed the batsman the ability to guess, hitting the right areas in the pitch.

At the time of writing, England were faltering at 32/3 at the end of six overs. Jason Roy was having a tough time at the crease while youngster Harry Brooke had just come out to bat.
