West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has pulled out of England’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers due to illness. Rice will miss England’s matches against Albania and San Marino as they look to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

“Declan Rice has withdrawn from the England squad. Unable to train due to illness since reporting at St. George’s Park, the midfielder has returned to West Ham United and will not play a role in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers. “

“At this time there are no plans for any additions to the squad. Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are yet to join the group and continue to be evaluated after dental surgery and concussion, respectively.”

England boss Gareth Southgate had already been affected by the return of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Pruce due to fitness issues.

Arsenal midfielder Emil Smith Rowe was added to the squad for their first senior call-up after the dismissals of Rashford and Ward-Prause.
