Ensure allotted Krishna water reaches Rayalaseema: Balakrishna

TDP seeks steps to get KRMB approval for all ongoing projects mentioned in Reorganization Act

TDP MLA from Hindupur N. Balakrishna has said that the state government should make efforts to get the Krishna water allotted to Rayalaseema region by increasing the drainage capacity of Handri-Niva Sujala Shravanti (HNSS) project within the stipulated time frame, and complete it. Shri Balakrishna was speaking at the party’s third regional meeting ‘Krishna Jal and its future in Rayalaseema’ held at Hindupur on Sunday.

TDP leaders from eight parliamentary constituencies in four districts attended the meeting.

Seeking immediate measures to obtain Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) approval for all ongoing irrigation projects mentioned in the AP State Reorganization Act of 2014, Mr Balakrishna said HNSS, the brainchild of TDP founder NT Rama Rao Was.

“The state government should immediately start the work of connecting Godavari, Krishna and Penna and ensure Rayalaseema gets its fair share of Krishna waters,” said Mr. Balakrishna.

Kalava Srinivasulu, the party coordinator and former minister for Rayalaseema, criticized the government for not making any effort to exercise its right to reallocate the state’s 512 TMCFT Krishna water quota for various projects.

The meeting favored that all major works of Krishna water projects being shared by the two Telugu states would be managed by KRMB on the lines of Tungabhadra Board.

“Telangana Chief Minister is talking to Union Jal Shakti Minister and ensuring that projects on Krishna do not stop. But Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is not just pressuring the Center to recuse himself from court cases.

Party leaders from Chittoor, Kurnool and Cuddapah districts alleged that the government was not taking any initiative to increase the capacity of the HNSS project.

He also demanded clear cut allocation for Telugu Ganga, Galleru-Nagri, Veligonda and Nettampadu projects.

The meeting was presided over by TDP Hindupur Lok Sabha constituency in-charge BK Parthasarathy.
