Russian club Spartak will need to find a neutral venue outside the country to host the return match before Russian club Spartak will play in the first leg of the Round of 16 Europa League in Leipzig.

Clubs were set to face each other on Friday, nearly two hours after the UEFA Executive Committee’s decision that Russian and Ukrainian teams would not be allowed to host games in their competitions.

The ruling came after Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. This was added to a 2014 order by UEFA that separates teams from the two countries in their draws following Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.

UEFA has also moved St Petersburg, which hosted this year’s Champions League final, to the Stade de France outside Paris.

The first leg will be played on March 9 and 10, while the return games will be held on March 17.

In addition, Barcelona will face Turkish club Galatasaray as it continues its quest for their maiden Europa League title. The Catalan club will host the first leg.

Barcelona are playing Europe’s second-tier competition for the first time in 18 years – when it was still known as the UEFA Cup – as it finished third in its Champions League group.

The six-time champions will host West Ham in the first leg at the Sevilla Stadium which will also hold the final on 18 May.

In addition, Atalanta will face Bayer Leverkusen, Braga will face Monaco, Porto will face Lyon, Rangers will face Red Star Belgrade and Real Betis will face Eintracht Frankfurt.
