Experience healthy bliss at ‘Fig at Malcha’ – The New-Age ‘Conscious Cafe’ in Delhi

The cafe culture is booming in the capital city with an expansion in food offerings and coffee varieties. New-age cafes are transcending the old image of a small barnyard with limited snacking options. The recently opened Fig in Malcha brings a whole new cafe experience with its spacious outlet in Malcha Marg. After winning hearts with its outpost in Gurugram (pictured in the museum), Fig in Malcha goes the extra mile in enthusing Delhi’s discerning population. The unique ‘conscious cafe’ gives healthy food a whole new meaning with some great offerings that look straight out of a fine dining restaurant.

An amalgamation of Japanese design and the Nordic lifestyle, the cafe features a curated menu based on seasonal produce from local farms, 100% GMO-free meat, cage-free eggs as well as a Parisian-style in-house bakery that serves up fresh Makes breads and pastries every morning and evening, and ‘farm-to-cup’ specialty coffee.

My Gastronomic Journey in ‘Fig at Malcha’

I happened to visit the cafe and experienced a never-seen-before eco-contemporary and conscious offering, that too in a relaxing and soothing setup. The moment I stepped into the cafe, I was enthralled with the minimalist yet beautiful white interiors of the cafe. The two-story layout gave a respite from the otherwise chowk-a-block restaurants we see everywhere.

The menu is extensive, offering something for everyone. There are tons of options here – from all-day breakfast items, soups and salads to pasta and Thai food.

But first things first – coffee! I ordered an iced latte and it was a very refreshing ‘pick me up’ drink. Then I started my meal with Chicken Won Ton Soup and it was so delicious that it made my hunger go up. Being a lover of prawns, I had to order Prawn Ceviche. Although it looked and tasted great, I experienced the avocado prawn flavor in that dish, which I somewhat missed. The salmon carpaccio with crunchy green beans and delectable sauce looked great and tasted even better.

Shepherd’s Pie gave me the comfort food it’s known for. The layering of the pie was done beautifully and after such a hearty meal my belly didn’t lose weight. I had to wait a long time for the lamb chops to arrive but I forgot the way it was plated. The lamb was paired with fried vegetables that were oh-so delicious. The outer layer of the pork was a bit crispy but the overall flavor was good on the plate. I ended the meal on a sweet note with charred cheesecake and it can be described in one word – ‘heavenly’.

I left with a full stomach and a full heart. One thing that really fascinated me was the presentation of all the dishes; Congratulations to the chef for showing his creativity on the plate. I’m definitely going back to Fig in Malcha.
