Experience the age-old culinary traditions of Tamil Nadu in Seasonal Taste, Gurgaon

There is something about centuries-old culinary traditions that sets them apart from ordinary cooking. These are dishes we savored in our childhood and passed down through generations, bringing to life the authentic flavors of the region that are hard to replicate. The ancient city of Tiruchirappalli is one such example which includes a vast array of delicious dishes. These traditional delicacies were brought to our taste by Seasonal Tastes at Westin, Sector 29 Gurgaon. The restaurant is hosting a 13-day long festival called ‘Treasure of Trichy’ celebrating the culinary traditions of the historic city.

Chef Vijayakumar was the driving force behind this gastronomical celebration with an elaborate yet carefully thought-out menu. The meal began with a Parappu Malli Rasam which was served with coriander and mixed spices. Thereafter, we tried out various appetizers which stoked our craving for something spicy. There was the Trichy-special paneer, followed by the Vazaipu vadai made from banana flowers and lentils. These were both crunchy and different from anything we’ve tried before.

Among the non-vegetarian appetizers, there was the popular Mutton Sukka and Meen Kal Masala. The generous use of spices and smorgasbord of flavors in these dishes stole the show for us.

In the main course, we tried trichi ni katharikai, which was brinjal masala that was roasted in ghee. The use of whole garlic pods in the dish was an instant palate-dryer, and the otherwise astringent spice flavors were surprisingly mellow. Maravali masala or mashed tapioca had a subtle flavor that complemented the pungency of other dishes well.

The gravy dishes were served with classic lemon rice cooked with meticulous attention to detail. Freshly cooked kaal dosa and parottas compliment the feast.

Meetha Semiya Payasam and Rava Kesari bring a sweet end to our meal. So, if you want to experiment with the delicious food of Tamil Nadu, you know where you should be!
