Expiry drugs in raids, lack of IV fluid in PHC

Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) officials on Tuesday raided the Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) in the state and allegedly found several irregularities in the health centres.

Director General Vigilance and Enforcement Shankh Brata Bagchi said that some primary health centers reportedly did not have any medicines that were shown in the stock register, and in some centres, medicines of their expiry date (outdated) were found in chemists.

Ambulances were in damaged condition, and variation was noticed between stock registers and availability of medicines in hospitals. IV fluids, dengue fever kits, saline bottles and other medicines were not found in some centres.

“At Elmanchili CHC in Anakapalli district, expired medicines were found in a drugstore. At Pedapalla PHC in Konaseema district, the actual stock of medicines did not match with the stock register in the drugstore,” Mr Bagchi said.

Vigilance teams noticed that the staff did not display the medicines and laboratory facilities available at the health centers at Gudur and Kanuru in Krishna district.

The Director General of Vigilance said that anti-snake venom was not available at Bairagipatta in Tirupati urban district and Hepatitis B, IV fluids, saline bottles and other medicines were not available at Cumbam health center in Prakasam district.

Shri Bagchi said that a report is being sent to the government recommending action against the medical officers, drug store in-charges and other employees for irregularities in health centers.
