External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to his British counterpart Liz Truss on Thursday, focusing on defense and security ties, the situation in Ukraine and the implementation of the India-UK ‘Roadmap 2030’.

The ‘Roadmap 2030’ was adopted in a virtual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson in May last year.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Good catch with UK Foreign Secretary @trussliz. Periodically reviewed our Roadmap 2030. Also discussed the situation in Ukraine.”

On his part, Truss said defense and security cooperation on “Russian aggression against Ukraine” was discussed as well as a proposed India-UK free trade agreement.

It was a pleasure talking to Jaishankar. We discussed: Russian aggression against Ukraine; Working towards FTA with India; Close defense and security cooperation.

The US and its western allies have been severely critical of Russia’s continued build-up of forces along the Ukrainian border.

Against the backdrop of fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, the US has decided to send additional troops to Europe to support its allies.

Roadmap 2030 aimed to increase cooperation in key areas of trade and economy, defense and security, climate change and people-to-people contacts over the next decade.
