“Extreme Climate Models…”: Vietnam Post Record High Temperatures

Record temperature was recorded at 44.1 degree Celsius on Saturday afternoon

Hanoi:

Vietnam recorded a record high temperature late Saturday, with the north-central weather station measuring 44.1 degrees Celsius (111.38 degrees Fahrenheit), officials said, breaking the previous high set in 2019.

South Asia has been in the grip of a heat wave for most of April, with neighboring countries also recording record temperatures.

Vietnam’s weather varies from north to south, but the entire country is now entering the hottest summer months.

The National Hydrometeorological Forecasting Center said the indoor Hoi Xuan station in north-central Thanh Hoa province recorded a record high of 44.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday afternoon.

The figure broke the country’s previous high of 43.4 °C, recorded in central Ha Tinh province’s Huang Khe district on April 20, 2019.

“This is a worrying record in terms of climate change and global warming,” climate change expert Nguyen Ngoc Huy told AFP from the capital Hanoi.

“I believe this record will be repeated many times,” he said.

“It confirms that extreme climate models are proving true.”

Scientists say global warming is exacerbating adverse weather, with a recent report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warning that “every increase in global warming will intensify many more concurrent hazards”.
