F1: Bottas reveals Mercedes blocked him for 2021 world title bid

The Finn has impressed so far in Sochi as well and has been on top of the weekend’s practice session.

Outgoing Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has revealed he felt he was not allowed to challenge for the world title in the first half of the 2021 season, while his teammate led the championship in the first half of the year. “At least in the first season, I thought I was no longer allowed to brawl, but you never know. We go race by race. I think in Formula 1 you never know how the season will progress. Right now There’s also a fair amount of running, so never say never,” the Finnish driver revealed. Bottas will leave the Mercedes F1 team at the end of the year and complete a five-year stint with the team, where he was twice runner-up to Lewis Hamilton. He is joining the Alfa Romeo team in 2022 as their key driver, something that was done by Toto Wolff who is the owner of the Mercedes team who also manages the Finn.

“For me personally, coming here is different, so the only thing on my mind is winning. That’s the only thing that matters to me and my outlook for this week at least.” As an ally to Hamilton as he has been before.

Valtteri Bottas will join Alfa Romeo team at the end of the season

Bottas impressed at Monza after being announced as the Alfa Romeo driver before the race. He won the sprint race and came back from the back end of the grid due to an impressive P3 engine penalty behind the McLaren cars.

Bottas has long been under pressure as Mercedes has been tipped wildly to promote George Russell to his seat as he is seen as Hamilton’s successor.

“I guess it’s easier to say it that way, but I felt the same way at Monza. I almost felt like a load off my shoulders and really enjoyed it. So I’m sure it doesn’t do any harm.” I felt good and I still feel good,” he revealed. Also in Sochi, the Finn has impressed so far and has been on top of the weekend’s practice sessions.
