Domenicali also wants to spread the calendar to new places around the world, even if it means abandoning some traditional places.

The Kyalami was a mainstay of the F1 calendar between the 60s and 80s, but in 1993 it hosted its last race, in fact, the last race on the African continent. It looks like Kyalami has a lot of interest in returning to the F1 calendar if F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is to be believed.

“We got interest from Kyalami to get back on the calendar. Of course, we’ve discussed with them whether they’re ready to include it in the calendar, from a technical point of view, from a financial point of view, so there are discussions. There have been other requests from other countries … at this time, I need to keep it confidential,” he told CNN.

2022 will also host its first race in Miami which will take place on 8 May and Domenicali is open about having even more races for the 2022 season than the current 23. Domenicali has also expressed interest in spreading the calendar to new locations around the world, even if it means removing some of the traditional European locations.

“How many do we want in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and the Far East? I can see fewer GPs in Europe, more in the Americas and more in the Middle East and Asia. This is something that is part of developing a business. And this is entertainment. Of course, we are aware of the importance of tradition and it provides you with the material for the future. But if you live by tradition you don’t live long. We need to lay the foundation for the future ,” he told GQ magazine a few months ago.

Also in 2022, Zandvroot was added to the calendar, and then later in the year Saudi Arabia will host its first F1 race and there is a chance Doha will get a race as well.
