Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s life is an example to all and it shows that respect cannot be earned by money. Despite her stardom, her humble and simple life, as well as the warm relationship with everyone in the film industry, showcases Lata Mangeshkar’s humble side. He had good relations with many people from the states, beyond the Hindi film industry.
Her love for sarees is well known and over the years she developed a strong relationship with the saree weavers and traders of Varanasi.
Armaan Ahmed, a sari trader from Varanasi, performed Rudrabhishek at Kashi Vishwanath temple on January 20 for the well being of Lata Mangeshkar, who was then undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. He and his family were in shock on the morning of 6 February after receiving the news of his death. Armaan’s brother Rizwan Ahmed while talking to Times of India said, “His death is a personal loss to our family.”
He had met Lata Mangeshkar in May 2015, when her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar and others came to buy her saris at the Ahmed Brothers’ shop in Varanasi. After a phone conversation with Lata Mangeshkar, Armaan went to Mumbai with some beautiful Banarasi saris. After that meeting, they formed an emotional connection, and she became a loving figure to him.
Armaan Ahmed and his brother Rizwan Ahmed said that she was like a mother to him, and whenever he met or talked to her, he used to call her ‘Maa’.
Although Lata Mangeshkar never visited his house, Armaan and Rizwan frequented his Mumbai residence. He often talked to her on the phone. The brothers said that they have kept all the gifts and checks sent by him and will always cherish them in the memory of the singer.
Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital in early January after being diagnosed with Kovid-19 and pneumonia. He died of multi-organ failure after about a month in the hospital. After full state honours, he was cremated at Shivaji Park ground in Mumbai.
