Farhana Review: Aishwarya Rajesh shines in this suspense thriller

Aishwarya Rajesh has once again shown her acting prowess in Farhana.

The story revolves around Farhana played by Aishwarya Rajesh who belongs to a conservative Muslim family and lives in the by-lanes of Chennai.

Tamil actress Aishwarya Rajesh has been unstoppable as Farhana is her fourth release of the year. Director Nelson Venkatesh is back with another engaging film based on the life of a Muslim woman and her struggle to uplift her family by working in a call centre. But soon it takes a U-turn with just one phone call that could cost him and his family. The film also stars Selvaraghavan, Jeetan Ramesh, Anumol, Aishwarya Dutta and Kitty.

The story revolves around Farhana played by Aishwarya Rajesh who belongs to a conservative Muslim family and lives in the by-lanes of Chennai. She is married to Karim (Jitan Ramesh) who works at her father-in-law’s shoe shop. He is a man with progressive views and believes that his wife can help him in supporting the family. Due to a sudden deterioration in her child’s health, Farhana takes up a job as a customer support representative in a private bank with the help of her friends. However, her regressive father Aziz Bhai (Kittu) disapproves of her decision to work.

She finds herself transferred to a different team that promised better incentives, unaware that the film slowly unfolds as the adventures unfold. Now the question arises that will she be able to get out of it or how did her husband handle the situation?

Nelson Venkatesh through the character of Farhana has shown a realistic reflection of a woman living with her father, husband and family. Specifically, their hopes, moods and longings are captured in the form of visuals at some places and the film at other places.

The director has flawlessly executed the screenplay without leaving the audience confused, but the track could have tried to pick up the pace.

Aishwarya Rajesh slays as Farhana and proves her acting prowess once again. He has lent his shoulder to the film as he has made it more realistic. Jeetan Ramesh has also spread magic with his performance. He has shown innocence, helplessness and love for his wife very easily. Selvaraghavan was a surprise as you would hear his voice in most of the scenes in the film while he established the dread.

Apart from the cast, the work done by the crew of the film is commendable. The cinematographer has beautifully captured the narrow lanes and crowded residents of Thiruvallikeni area of Chennai.

Justin Prabhakaran’s background music is one of the major strengths of the film. He has enhanced the power of the visuals with the music. Film editor Sabu Joseph played a vital role as he beautifully conveyed the director’s ideas on the big screen.

Overall Farhana impresses in most of the scenes with minor flaws.
