Karnal witnessed heavy traffic jam due to farmers’ march towards the secretariat, which started after their meeting with district officials ended on Tuesday afternoon.
The protesters were first stopped by the police at Namaste Chowk (intersection). It was only after a brief discussion that the police allowed the protesters to proceed.
Hundreds of thousands of agitators on tractors, carrying sticks, are reported to be moving towards the mini secretariat of Karnal.
Yogendra Yadav said ‘not happy’
Political activist Yogendra Yadav claimed that he and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh leader Rakesh Tikait were briefly detained by the police.
However, he said that he is not happy with the way things are unfolding as he wants the entire congregation and march to be conducted in a peaceful manner.
“We didn’t want things to happen this way. We are ready to be arrested but we don’t want any politics on the subject,” he told the media.
An 11-member farmer delegation of Kisan Mahapanchayat submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Karnal Deputy Commissioner at the Mini Secretariat this morning.
In the memorandum, the farmers reiterated their demand for strict action against the IAS officer who ordered lathi-charge on the protesters on August 28.

After the meeting, Yogendra Yadav told the media, “Our talks with the DC and the SP were held in three rounds. 15 representatives participated in it.
