Some unidentified people robbed a house in Perurani near here on Monday night.
Police said that 57-year-old farmer M. Sudalaimuthu and his two sons were sleeping on the first floor of the house, while his wife Valliyammal slept on the ground floor. Sri Sudalaimuthu got up in the morning and came to the ground floor and found the back door open. The thieves had taken 46 gold jewelery worth around Rs 20.70 lakh and Rs 1.36 lakh in cash.
Based on a complaint by Mr. Sudalaimuthu, Thattaparai police have registered a case.
Superintendent of Police L. Balaji Saravanan visited the spot along with fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs.
Further investigation is on.
