FC Bengaluru United and Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla FC have been awarded the Best Internationalization Strategy by the prestigious World Football Summit (WFS) Awards. The prize presented by Deloitte was announced on September 9; The trophy will be presented during the ceremony on the first day of WFS Europe at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on 22 September. With this recognition, FC Bengaluru United has become the first football club in India to win the prestigious World Football Summit Award.
Since its inception in 2018, FC Bengaluru United has witnessed a strong growth trajectory both on and off the field. They impressed with a strong performance in the I-League Qualifiers in 2020, and earlier this year, were crowned BDFA Super Division League Champions. Further underlining their growing prowess, FC Bengaluru United along with other top-flight Indian football clubs have been invited to participate in the Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament to be held in Kolkata. In only their first appearance, FC Bengaluru United became the first team to enter the knockouts by winning back-to-back league matches against CRPF (2-0) and IAF (4-2). The club has garnered praise for their holistic approach of promoting the sport from the grassroots level.
In January this year, FC Bengaluru United announced its partnership with LaLiga legend Sevilla FC, a five-year agreement that will support technological innovation, development and projects in the sport as well as one of the largest football clubs in the world.
