Hubli: South Western Railway has increased the speed of 55 trains.
Now passengers traveling to Hubballi, Bengaluru and Mangaluru and other cities by night trains can reach their destination half an hour earlier.
A Bagalkot-Mysore traveler can save more than two hours.
South Western Railway has increased the speed of trains by a total of 30 hours due to line doubling, electrification and other advancements.
Sanjeev Kishor, General Manager, South Western Railway in Hubli, said the utility wants to improve mobility by removing bottlenecks and timely execution of projects. “Measures have been taken to accelerate and complete doubling on major routes of SWR. By flattening the curves, the permanent speed restrictions have been removed. This has helped in increasing the sectional speed over SWR,” he said.
“The decision was taken at the Indian Railways Time Table Conference in Bengaluru last month to increase the speed of trains,” he said.
Anish Headey, Chief Public Relations Officer, South Western Railway said that it has been decided to speed up 55 trains to provide better travel experience. “Intensive supervision and daily monitoring by senior officials like GM, Principal Chief Operations Manager HS Verma has helped in minimizing failures and reducing match times. Corrective measures are also being taken to improve the operation of the train. In the last financial year, so far, SWR was at the 4th position in terms of punctuality across Indian Railways. Train number 17308 Bagalkot-Mysore is a major beneficiary of this initiative as it was given a speed of 145 minutes from start to finish. Another big beneficiary is Train Number 11301, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai – KSR Bengaluru Udyan Express which has speed of 110 mins and will bring Passengers of Kalaburagi Area in shortest time.
He said that the total time of 55 trains is 1,795 minutes left.
Mahendra Singhi, a member of the Zonal Railway User Advisory Committee, said that the speed of trains is the result of technological up-gradation of the Railways. “SWR’s decision to speed up 55 trains is beneficial for North, Coastal and South Karnataka and even other states, wherever SWR runs trains,” he said.
The speed of many trains like majorly running train number 16546 Karatagi – Yesvantpur in Karnataka has been increased by 70 minutes. Train number 7392 SSS Hubli-KSR Bengaluru and 16596 Karwar-KSR Bengaluru has been accelerated by 45 minutes.
