FIFA World Cup 2022: History has been created today in Qatar and it is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo who has added another feather to his cap. Before the start of this match, Portugal were touted as favorites and they have definitely lived up to that tag. They were certainly wary of the Ghanaian challenge. Unexpectedly, Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia and Germany lost to Japan. Portugal certainly did not want to add to the list of upsets in the ongoing World Cup. A lot was riding on the legendary CR7 who was recently in the news because of his exit from famed English Premier League club Manchester United.

In the opening minutes of the game, Ghana looked excellent with their rock-solid defence. Portugal tried to make the move on several occasions, but each time they tried to increase the pace, they were stopped by Ghana. For most of the match, Portugal had possession of the ball, but could not make the most of it. Things were pretty competitive between the two sides till the first half. Portugal had 70% possession and Ghana had 30% possession, but as the game progressed into the second half, things took off to a whole new level. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the account by scoring a penalty in a historic moment. The goal is historic as Cristiano became the first man to score in five World Cups. A great achievement which is a testament to his stature in this game.

Ghana was also not ready to bow down. They equalized and it was definitely a scare for Portugal. He tried and forced matters. As Portuguese attacks intensified, Ghana slowly began to disintegrate. Joao Felix took advantage of a superb assist from Manchester United superstar Bruni Fernandes to give Portugal the lead. Supporting Felix with his heroics, Rafael Leão also scored for Portugal and this too was assisted by Bruno Fernandes. Ghana scored another goal in the final minutes of the game but their cause was long lost. Portugal have earned their first point and now their eyes will definitely be on the next stage of the tournament.
