The frame of Messi kissing and caressing the trophy after collecting the Golden Ball trophy says a lot about what the title means to him.
6029 days after making his World Cup debut, Messi finally repeated what Diego Maradona did in the year 1986. Messi was always regarded as Maradona’s prodigal son and he publicly stated that Diego was watching over him and his team from heaven and that Messi had given him more reasons to smile. This was Messi’s 5th World Cup and probably his last. It hasn’t been a great start to the season for the great Messi but now that he looks back, he will have nothing but gratitude. He has now surpassed Pele’s record of 12 World Cup goals and has 13 in his kitty.
The Argentine legend came very close to his wildest dream in 2014 but fell short by a narrow margin against a dominant German side. As in the 1986 final, Argentina had a 2–0 lead but later lost it to their opponents. Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe continued to fight and scored a stunning hat-trick, but this was Messi’s story and it couldn’t have ended any other way.

We demonstrate once again that Argentina when we fight together and unite we are capable of achieving what we set out to do. France was the defending champion, but Argentina under Messi were extremely dominant and they wanted it for themselves and for their football legend. Right after the World Cup victory, Messi said that he would not retire and would continue to play for Argentina as world champions.
