FIH Pro League 2022-2023: Hockey India named 22-man men’s squad against Spain, New Zealand

Hockey India A 22-member Indian men’s hockey team has been selected for the upcoming double-header matches against Spain and New Zealand in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022-2023 season opener to be held in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

India will take on New Zealand after starting their campaign on 28 October and will take on Spain on 28 October. Next week, India will play their second match against New Zealand on November 4 and will play Spain on November 6.

All the matches will be held at 1900 PM at the prestigious Kalinga Hockey Stadium, which will also host the much-awaited FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey. World Cup Bhubaneswar-Rourkela in January 2023.

The Indian team will be led by Captain Harmanpreet Singh and will be assisted by experienced midfielder Manpreet Singh. The team will also see some new faces in Mohammad Raheel Mausen, who was part of India’s winning outing at the FIH Hockey 5 earlier this year, and S Karthi, who made his debut for India in the Asia Cup Jakarta.

The team consists of goalkeeper Krishna Bahadur Pathak and PR Sreejesh. Jarmanpreet Singh, Surendra Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Mandeep Mor and Neelam Sanjeev Jess have been selected in the defenders.

Midfielders Sumit, Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh, Shamsher Singh, Rajkumar Pal and Mohammad Raheel Mausen have been selected to represent India. Forwardline has credited S Karthi for his performance in the Asia Cup held in Jakarta earlier this year. He will play alongside experienced forward Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Abhishek and Sukhjit Singh.

Talking about the team, head coach Graham Reid said: “We have picked an experienced team to play the first two rounds of the Pro League this weekend in Bhubaneswar. With that in mind, we also have two new players playing in the Pro League.”

“Mohammed Raheel will debut in the 11-a-side format after strong performances including the leading goal scorer and player of the tournament at the FIH 5K tournament in Lausanne in June and the recent National Games in Rajkot. s. Karthi is also making a comeback after his impressive debut in the Asia Cup earlier this year. He is a strong bust striker with a powerful shot on goal, who has a presence in the circle, which is important against strong European and Oceania countries. ,

Reid also emphasized on enhancing the leadership skills of the group and thus picked Harmanpreet to lead the team for these matches. “We are continuing to expand the leadership skills of the group, with Harmanpreet Singh being picked as captain for these first four matches,” Reid said.
