FIH World Cup 2023: Flight service from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela begins ahead of tournament inauguration

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off the first flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela from the Biju Patnaik International Airport ahead of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup.

The much-awaited Bhubaneshwar-Rourkela flight service begins today ahead of Odisha Hockey as per schedule World cup. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the Bhubaneswar-Rourkela flight service ahead of the Odisha Hockey World Cup through a video conferencing event.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today flagged off the first flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. Patnaik flagged off the flight at Biju Patnaik International Airport.

The flight operated by Alliance Air took off at 10.45 am and landed in Rourkela at 11.40 am.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other dignitaries were present during the flag-off ceremony.

The return flight took off from Rourkela at 12.05 pm and reached Bhubaneswar at 1 pm. Regular flights will start daily from January 12. The ticket price has been fixed at Rs 2800.

World Hockey Cup is going to be held in Rourkela from 13th of this month. including 16 countries India Odisha is coming. All the matches will be played in Rourkela and Bhubaneswar. The local people were very happy to get air service from Rourkela.

Federation Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji fulfilled another promise towards making air travel more accessible in Odisha.

Commencement of flight operations from Rourkela Airport today marks a new dawn towards promoting regional air connectivity in Odisha.

The 16 teams competing for the coveted title are divided into four groups.

Australia, South Africa, France and Argentina are in Pool A while Belgium, Japan, Korea and Germany are in Pool B.

The Netherlands, Chile, Malaysia and New Zealand have been clubbed together in Pool C, as hosts India have been clubbed with Wales, Spain and England.

This is the second consecutive World Cup to be held in India as Bhubaneswar also hosted the previous edition of the quadrangular tournament in the year 2018.

This is the fourth time that India has won the hosting rights for the most number of events in the history of the competition.

India won the Hockey World Cup in Malaysia in 1975 and the current generation of players will be eager to emulate the feat and bring glory to the country.
