Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Railways has approved the Last Location Survey (FLS) balangir-nuapada via newline Patnagarh With an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore. This was a long pending demand of the people Patnagarh and surrounding area.
The 100 km new line comes under the East Coast Railway (ECoR). It will have seven stations between Balangir and Nuapada, These are Hardatal, Churapali, buffaloPatnagarh, seriousness, Harishankar and Lakhana. Preliminary engineering cum traffic survey for the new line was done a few years back.
“The preliminary survey of this line was started by me in my last term as the MP of Balangir. And after 13 years my request has been accepted. Balangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo said in a tweet posted on Wednesday, “My heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.”
Patnagarh civic committee member Bajranglal Jain said that they travel about 100 km from Patnagarh to reach Nuapada. “But this line will be reduced by 45 km. People including businessmen depend on Raipur in Chhattisgarh for various purposes. After the completion of this line, people can save time and money while traveling to Raipur via Nuapada. Now we have a long way to go to Raipur.”
This civic committee had staged a rail roko in Balangir in October 2017 demanding the laying of a rail line between Balangir and Nuapada. Jain said it would be cost-effective to move agricultural and other products from their locality to other parts of the state and beyond. “We can save time by shipping and ordering goods using rail transport,” he said.
Dolamani Pradhan, president of Kosal Yuva Coordination Committee and resident of Balangir, said that once this new line becomes operational, trade and communication will get a boost in the district. “Patnagarh is a sub-division of Balangir district. People come to the city for both business and official work. The rail line will help them a lot. Even the people of Patnagarh can connect to both Balangir and Nuapada.
He said that Harishankar is a popular tourist destination. “After the arrival of this line, tourists can easily reach this place through trains. Better communication will increase the number of tourists in Harishankar,” he said.
