The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons for uploading an allegedly morphed photograph of a woman journalist on a website, officials said on January 2.

The journalist had filed an online complaint and shared the copy of the complaint on Twitter.

Police said the case was registered on the night of January 1 at Cyber Police Station in South East district.

A case has been registered under sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 354A (punishment for sexual harassment and harassment) of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of a journalist, a senior police officer said. . It is alleged that she is being targeted by an unknown group of people on the “Bully Bai” portal.

Police said that no arrest has been made so far in the case and investigation is on.

According to the complaint, the woman, working with an online news portal, took to social media to demand an immediate FIR and probe against an unidentified group of people “trying to harass and insult Muslim women”.

“I was shocked to learn this morning that a website/portal called Bullibai.github.io [since deleted] There was a distorted picture of me in an inappropriate, unacceptable and frankly lewd context. This needs immediate action, as it is clearly designed to harass me and other similarly located independent women and journalists,” the woman said in the complaint.

“I enclose herein the snapshot of the said tweet as well as the snapshot of other tweets. The term ‘bully bye’ in itself sounds derogatory and the content of this website/portal [bullibai.github.io] This is clearly aimed at insulting Muslim women as the derogatory word ‘bully’ is used specifically for Muslim women and the entire website has been created with the intention of shaming and insulting Muslim women. “

Delhi Police replied on Twitter saying that taking cognizance of the matter, the concerned authorities have been directed to take appropriate action.
