Fire at Jhandewalan Cycle Market; 20 shops burnt

A massive fire broke out at a cycle market in central Delhi’s Jhandewalan on Friday afternoon, destroying at least 20 shops.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) director Atul Garg said that at around 2.05 pm, they received information about a fire in a godown located near Videocon Tower. Around 27 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control around 5.30 pm, Mr. Garg said, adding that no casualty has been reported in the incident so far.

According to officials, the fire started in an office located in the basement of a building, from where it spread to the ground and the first floor in no time.

The DFS chief said that due to the congested road and parking, there is a problem in conducting the firefighting operation.
