A fire broke out in a multi-storey building near the West Bengal Raj Bhavan in central Kolkata on the morning of Wednesday, May 10, 2023, a fire official said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in the incident and the building was evacuated even as Governor CV Anand Bose came out of his official residence to witness the fire.
Seven fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze that broke out at 10.5 am in the building in Dalhousie area, he said.
“The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. We have evacuated the building as a precautionary measure. Efforts are on to douse the fire,” the official said.
The governor said, “I came out to take stock of the fire. If there is any need, the Raj Bhavan is ready to provide all help. The fire brigade is doing a good job.”
Senior officers of Kolkata Police have reached the spot.
