A godown full of old iron and plastic material near Poonamallee was destroyed in a fire incident on Sunday.
A senior official of the Fire and Rescue Service said people in the area were shocked by heavy smoke billowing out of Yogeshwaran’s godown. Immediately residents alerted the fire control room who informed Nazarthpet Fire and Rescue Services. A total of three fire tenders were pressed into service from Poonamallee and Madurvoyal and they extinguished the fire after two hours of fighting.
The cause of the fire is said to be an electrical short circuit.
